%X This work aims, with the help of Geographic Information System (GIS) to assess the potential variations of soil loss by water sheet erosion over the years 1985 and 2015 the Environmental Protection Areas Serra da Mantiqueira and Fernão Dias through Equation Universal soil Loss (USLE) proposed by Wischmeier and Smith in 1978, taking into account the intensity of rainfall in the region, soil erodibility, the length of the slope, the slope and the use of measures and soil conservation. The results obtained from multitemporal application of USLE will present the evolution of the erosive process allowing diagnose, plan and control the quality of the environment in the study area in order to conserve there existing vegetation, thus preserving the soil and consequently the quality and water availability of the site. The methodology to be adopted in this work includes literature review, necessary for the characterization of the main concepts about the topic covered in this study, supporting the relevance of the theme for sustainable development; and collecting information and data required to estimate soil loss via EUPS, such as soil conditions, topography, land use and land cover. These, through the help of Geographic Information System (GIS) are intended to identify which areas are most vulnerable to erosion process allowing to establish measures that seek to minimize the erosive effects of anthropogenic especially those who directly influence the water quality.
